ABSTRACT:
We address the area of decision making in complex multi-criteria environments. One of these more prominent areas is the one found in the IS/IT context like e.g. enterprise resource planing (ERP) - selection or service oriented architecture (SOA) - modeling. We recognize the great demand for methods and techniques that can be of practical help by presenting one new, conceptual approach, the profile distance method (PDM), to support such selection problems. We present the idea of merging prominent and promising methods building a case sensitive framework. We demonstrate how the profile distance method was transformed into a software environment enabling the decision maker to utilize a complex decision making tool without any advanced knowledge of the underlying mathematical and technical features. We present theoretical and technical aspects as well as contextual and usage related information from the viewpoint of the decision maker.
