Application to Undergraduate Programs for International Students

Admission to undergraduate programs from abroad are conducted within the framework of the Rules Governing Admission from Abroad issued by the Higher Education Council (YÖK). The list of universities and their respective quotas are announced on YÖK's website.

To apply to the undergraduate degree programs of Boğaziçi University, the applicant is required to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), a requirement set by the Senate of Boğaziçi University and approved by the Council of Higher Education.

To be eligible to apply, students are expected to receive a minimum score of 680 out of 800 from the "math" section and a total score of 1250 out of 1600 from the "math" and "critical reading" sections of the SAT. SAT scores are valid for two years. The SAT is the only international exam accepted in the admission process to the undergraduate degree programs of Boğaziçi University for international students.

Qualified Applicants

a) The following students who fulfill the SAT requirements of Boğaziçi University are eligible to apply provided that they have successfully completed their secondary education or are in the last year of their secondary education:

1) International students;

2) Natural born citizens of the Republic of Turkey who have been permitted by the Turkish Ministry of Interior Affairs to abandon their citizenship and who hold an "Official Document for the Use of Rights Granted by the Turkish Citizenship Law" (it might prove useful for such applicants to review the laws governing Turkish citizenship);

3) Natural born citizens of a foreign country who later acquired Turkish citizenship or such applicants who have dual citizenship;

4) Turkish citizens who completed their entire secondary educations in a foreign country other than Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC);

5) TRNC citizens having residency in the TRNC who completed their secondary education in the TRNC and received a General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE AL), commonly referred to as an A-level qualification, and such applicants who completed their secondary educations between 2005 and 2010 in another country and received a GCE AL.

b) Applications cannot be accepted from:

1) Turkish citizens who completed part or all of their secondary educations in Turkey or in the TRNC;

2) Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (except those having residency in the TRNC who completed their secondary education in the TRNC and received a GCE AL, and such applicants who completed their secondary educations between 2005 and 2010 in another country and received a GCE AL);

3) Applicants with dual citizenship whose Turkish citizenship results from being born in Turkey (except those who completed their entire secondary educations in a foreign country other than Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus/those who completed their entire secondary educations in a Turkish school in a foreign country other than TRNC);

4) Applicants with dual citizenship whose one citizenship is that of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (except those having residency in the TRNC who completed their secondary education in the TRNC and received a GCE AL, and such applicants who completed their secondary educations between 2005 and 2010 in another country and received a GCE AL);

5) Turkish citizens who completed their secondary educations at a school within Turkey that is either affiliated with the Embassy of a foreign country or that is a foreign high school (this provision also applies to applicants with dual citizenship whose Turkish citizenship results from being born in Turkey).

The medium of instruction at Boğaziçi University is English. Applicants accepted by Boğaziçi University have to present proof of their English proficiency by receiving the accepted minimum scores in one of the exams accepted by the Senate of Boğaziçi University (please see below for further information). Applicants satisfying this requirement may enroll in the program to which they have been accepted. Those who fail to satisfy this English proficiency requirement are accepted to into the School of Foreign Languages English Preparatory program.

  1. BUEPT: Boğaziçi University English Proficiency Exam
  2. TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language
  3. Academic IELTS: International English Language Testing System

TOEFL (CBT) 213, TWE 4.5

TOEFL (IBT) 79, TWE 22
